Demand Moratoriums on Data Centers in Your County!
Hyperscale AI data centers are being proposed all across Florida — and they threaten our communities with noise pollution, toxic water use, power grid strain, and enormous environmental impact. Nassau County approved a 12-month moratorium on June 8, 2026 — setting a powerful example for the rest of the state. We need more Florida counties to follow.

There is a LOT happening right now when it comes to Data Centers. Here’s the breakdown:
Counties FIGHTING BACK (victories to celebrate):
- Jackson County — went further than a moratorium and voted to outright BAN all data centers, effective June 23. Unanimous vote. Led by community members citing 300,000–5 million gallons of water per day usage. This is HUGE.
- Walton County — also put a BAN on all data centers
- Wakulla County — Commissioners voted unanimously to put a permanent ban on data centers
- Nassau County — 12-month moratorium + fact-finding committee formed June 1
- Pasco County — Planning commission unanimously recommended a 12-month moratorium June 12; full county commission votes June 16 and July 14. Standing-room-only meeting with 3.5+ hours of public comment. County is already under extreme water shortage.
- Hernando County — Moving forward with a 365-day moratorium proposal
- Zephyrhills (Pasco) — City council also advancing its own moratorium
- Panhandle counties broadly — Multiple counties weighing bans/moratoriums
Threats still coming:
- Fort Meade (Polk County) — $2.6–2.8 billion campus, up to 4.4 million sq ft across 8 buildings. Has faced opposition and city commission delays, but not stopped.
- Fort Pierce (St. Lucie County) — Atlas Compute AI campus, 240 MW initial capacity, expandable to 1 GW
- Orlando — HostDime new data center opening Q3 2026
