Exposed: Corrupt Nevada Judges, Prosecutors, and Police Detective Enable Medical Malpractice Cover-Up in Family’s Fight for Justice After Iatrogenic Gadolinium Poisoning

Austin Sachs and his wife, Yuxia Zhang, were once ordinary parents in Nevada, living a peaceful life with their young son. But their world was shattered in early 2019 after what initially seemed to be a simple case of food poisoning turned into a nightmare involving medical malpractice, judicial corruption, and a relentless fight for justice.

It all started when Austin and Yuxia’s son was hospitalized after consuming chicken dumplings containing hidden MSG, which led to a severe reaction. Instead of diagnosing the issue as food poisoning, doctors at UMC Children’s Hospital in Las Vegas misdiagnosed the reaction as seizures. This grossly negligent misdiagnosis led to their son being prescribed harmful anti-seizure medication, which only worsened his condition.

But the worst was yet to come. In the hospital, their son was subjected to an MRI with gadolinium contrast—an element that the manufacturers claim stays in the body for months or even years. There is no guarantee that it’s safe under any circumstances, even for individuals with normal renal function. Knowing this, Austin had specifically instructed the doctors that if an MRI was necessary, it must be done without contrast. This request is clearly documented in their son’s medical records. However, when Austin was not present during the final days of his son’s hospitalization, his wife, Yuxia, and their son’s biological father, both of whom are Chinese, were misled by the doctors. The medical team failed to provide full disclosure about the dangers of gadolinium, coercing them into agreeing to the MRI with contrast without adequate informed consent.

This led to a serious case of iatrogenic gadolinium poisoning, an injury caused by medical treatment. Dr. Richard Semelka, the world’s leading authority on gadolinium toxicity, reviewed the case and confirmed that the injury to their son was indeed caused by gadolinium poisoning. This diagnosis aligns with the numerous lawsuits against the gadolinium manufacturers, including high-profile cases like that of Chuck Norris and his wife, Gena. Dr. Semelka’s involvement as an expert medical witness for the family is a critical part of their case and he is prepared to testify on their behalf.

Yet, despite this clear medical evidence, the situation only grew worse for Austin, Yuxia, and their son. Instead of finding support from the judicial system, they were faced with systemic corruption. The medical professionals who caused the harm never faced consequences, and what followed was a series of legal battles that exposed the deep flaws in Nevada’s justice system.

In their pursuit of justice, Austin and Yuxia were falsely accused of felony child neglect and abuse—charges stemming from the medical errors and subsequent cover-ups. They were pushed into a legal nightmare that saw them face a series of corrupt judges, prosecutors, and even police detectives. Judge Jessica Peterson, the fifth corrupt judge to handle their case, has now been the subject of their disqualification motions on three separate occasions, but each time, their requests were denied by the system that was supposed to uphold justice.

Chief Judge Jerry Wiese, who is responsible for hearing disqualification motions, played a key role in obstructing their attempts for a fair trial. His use of conflicting case law made it impossible for Austin and Yuxia to successfully disqualify Judge Peterson, despite clear bias and misconduct. Judge Peterson’s unprofessional behavior, including lying on the record and ignoring critical facts, further compounded their already difficult situation.

But it wasn’t just the judges who were part of the problem. Corrupt prosecutors and a police detective also played a role in the wrongful accusations and the persecution of the family. The prosecutors, led by Dena Rinetti, not only pursued the unjust charges but also failed to acknowledge the medical errors at the core of the case. Meanwhile, Detective Christopher Slack from the Boulder City Police Department was complicit in building a case based on lies and omissions, pushing forward with charges despite the glaring evidence that Austin and Yuxia were victims of medical malpractice, not perpetrators of neglect or abuse.

In early 2024, Austin and Yuxia filed a writ of mandamus with the Nevada Supreme Court, asking them to uphold their non-discretionary duty to have the grand jury reconvene and examine the case under Nevada Revised Statute (NRS) 172.241. This came after three district court judges wrongfully denied their motions and writ of habeas corpus. NRS 172.241 mandates the reconvening of a grand jury if the accused have not been provided with adequate notice, as was the case here. When their writ was denied, they filed for a rehearing. That too was denied. Their final attempt for justice came with a motion for reconsideration, but once again, the Nevada Supreme Court failed to apply the law, denying their motion without explanation. The ruling highlighted the state’s refusal to uphold the rule of law and protect the rights of innocent parents who were simply trying to clear their names and protect their child.

Sadly, Nevada’s highest proved to be no better than the district court. The seven justices of the Nevada Supreme Court willfully and wantonly refused to acknowledge the law, even though the statute clearly required the grand jury’s reconvening. Austin and Yuxia were left with no other recourse but to prepare for a trial that they knew was built on a foundation of lies.

Despite these setbacks, Austin and Yuxia are committed to exposing the corruption and the systemic flaws that have allowed this travesty to continue. They have not given up on their fight for justice, not only for their son but for all parents who face similar injustices. In their ongoing battle, they have turned to the public for support, urging others to join them in their quest for justice.

Their story, filled with medical malpractice, judicial corruption, and blatant disregard for parental rights, has caught the attention of many, and now they are seeking to make it even more widely known. Through their campaign and public outreach, including a series of video updates, they hope to shine a light on the corruption within the Nevada judicial system.

If you’re a parent, this case should resonate with you deeply. This is not just about one family’s fight—it’s about the broader battle for parental rights, medical accountability, and the need for justice reform in Nevada and across the United States. No parent should have to fight the system to protect their child from medical harm, but that’s exactly what Austin and Yuxia have been forced to do.
