A high-level White House summit intended to address global energy markets has instead pivoted to a national debate over President Donald Trump‘s cognitive health after he interrupted the meeting to comment on the room’s architecture.
The incident, captured in a viral video, provided fresh ammunition for critics who have long questioned the 79-year-old president’s mental state. It comes amid persistent, unverified rumours that he is receiving treatment for Alzheimer’s disease.
@wearedigitaldiplomacy Earlier today, US President Donald Trump briefly interrupted a White House meeting on Venezuela with oil and gas executives. “If we had a ballroom,” the President joked, saying that they weren’t able to fit all the executives in the East Room. “We’d have over one thousand people. I’ve never known your industry was this big,” he said referring to the oil and gas executives in the meeting. Trump paused and said: “In fact, if you look, come to think of it — wow, I’ve got to look at this myself.” The President paused again and turned towards the floor-to-ceiling window behind him — from the window you can see the construction site of the new White House ballroom he is building, after tearing down the East Wing. Trump then walked to the window and said: “Wow, what a view. This is the door to the ballroom. What a job.” The people in the room laughed. He continued: “Unusual time to look, but I figured we might as well do it. If the fake news would like to go back and take a look, you can. You’ll see a very big foundation that is moving. We’re ahead of schedule in the ballroom, and under budget. I don;t think there’s going to be anything like it in the world.” #diplomacy #digitaldiplomacy
