PANIC BUYING CLEARS SUPERMARKETS IN AUSTRALIA – No Fuel Means No Truck Deliveries

  • Aussie slammed drivers for panic buying fuel
  • She warned it could cripple logistics industry

An Aussie has warned drivers to stop panic-buying fuel as it could cause a ‘catastrophic’ logistics breakdown that would halt deliveries of lifesaving supplies.

Jillie Clark, an accounts manager at TIG Freight Management, said fears about personal travel were driving unnecessary stockpiling at petrol stations.

‘A lot of people are doing this because they’re worried about getting themselves from point A to point B, but they’re not considering the wider implications for the logistics industry,’ she said.

‘When we talk about a supply chain, logistics is arguably the most critical link. It doesn’t matter what you manufacture, if you can’t move it, it becomes redundant.

‘And the most critical resource in logistics is petrol and diesel. It doesn’t matter how many drivers you have; if you can’t fuel the trucks, they’re not going anywhere.

‘Every single thing you see around you was at some point in time on the back of a truck. If trucks can’t run Australia stops, nothing is getting anywhere.’

Her warning comes as petrol stations run dry across parts of the country, with at least 122 service stations in NSW out of diesel and 47 out of fuel by Friday afternoon.
