Meet the 6G megalomaniac regardless of the overwhelming health consequences and prodigious medical costs

President Xi Jinping is driving China’s 6G development as part of a “network great power” strategy to establish global technology leadership, aiming for standardization by 2025 and commercialization by 2030. Underpinned by state-backed research, China is advancing 6G trials, focusing on integrated space-terrestrial communication, Artificial Intelligence (AI) integration, and 6G, with 2025–2026 focusing on prototype development.

Key 6G Developments in China

  • Strategic Focus: Xi has emphasized building a “Cyber Great Power” and “Digital China,” with 6G highlighted in five-year blueprints for increasing investment in cutting-edge technology.
  • Active R&D and Trials: China’s 6G promotion team has been active since 2023, transitioning into a second phase (2025–2026) that focuses on 6G prototype development and technical solution trials.
  • Research Milestones: Chinese researchers have demonstrated advancements, including a fiber-wireless integrated system achieving a 512 Gbps data rate.
  • State-Driven Approach: The development is led by state-owned champions like Huawei and ZTE, utilizing 6 GHz frequency bands for 6G and 5G.
  • 6G Vision: The goal is to integrate communication with AI, satellite, and terrestrial networks, paving the way for advanced, immersive applications.

In addition to 6G, this broader strategy includes accelerating development in quantum computing, brain-computer interfaces, and embodied AI to ensure technological sovereignty.
