Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, who was assassinated in Moscow on Tuesday, had for years systematically exposed Western crimes involving chemical weapons and did so fearlessly, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said.<\/p>\n
Kirillov, the commander of the Russian Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Defense Forces, was killed along with his aide by an explosion in southeastern Moscow in the early morning.<\/p>\n
A number of media outlets have since reported that the murder was carried out on the orders of Ukraine\u2019s Security Service (SBU), which had labeled Kirillov as an\u00a0\u201cabsolutely legitimate target\u201d<\/em>\u00a0for assassination.<\/p>\n Writing on Kirillov\u2019s passing, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zakharova said that throughout his career he had repeatedly exposed the crimes of the\u00a0\u201cAnglo-Americans\u201d<\/em>\u00a0such as\u00a0\u201cNATO provocations with chemical weapons in Syria, Britain\u2019s manipulations with prohibited chemical substances and provocations in Salisbury and Amesbury, the deadly activities of American biolabs in Ukraine, and much more.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cHe worked fearlessly. He did not hide behind people\u2019s backs,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Zakharova wrote.<\/p>\n Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who currently serves as deputy chairman of the national Security Council, also expressed his condolences to Kirillov\u2019s colleagues, family, and friends, and stated that the attack in which he was killed was\u00a0\u201cthe agony of the Bandera regime.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cWith its last strength, it is trying to justify its worthless existence before its Western masters, to prolong the war and death, to justify the catastrophic situation at the front. Realizing the inevitability of its military defeat, it is inflicting cowardly and vile blows in peaceful cities,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Medvedev said.<\/p>\n
