One month before the mid term elections,\u00a0 <\/span>US President Donald Trump placed a phone<\/span><\/a> call to Russian President Vladimir Putin that lasted 1.5 hours to ostensibly, as Trump explained, the Russians want to \u2018make a deal\u2019<\/i> to end the Ukraine war.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n As many Americans recall the President campaigned on how easy it would be to end\u00a0 <\/span>the Ukraine war on \u2018day one\u2019<\/span><\/a> and promised to be a Peace President.\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cI\u2019m not going to start wars, I\u2019m going to stop wars\u201d.<\/i><\/i><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n Why would Putin trust Trump to make any agreement except one that benefits Russia\u2019s bottom line? \u00a0 <\/span>Why would Trump be willing to make a deal with Russia when the Congress recently adopted the \u201cLindsay O. Graham Sanctioning Russia Act of 2026\u201d<\/i> to increase pressure on Russia and other nations affiliated with Russia.<\/p>\n The truth may have been more of a motivating factor since Ukraine\u2019s President Zelensky had been ignoring Trump\u2019s request that Ukraine stop bombing diesel fuel<\/span><\/a> refineries in Russia leading to shortages and higher prices. \u00a0 <\/span>Obviously Trump felt he had an open door to call Putin.<\/p>\n Why Zelensky ignored Trump\u2019s order to stop bombing Russian energy facilities can be answered in that the President was never seriously going to end the Ukraine war in \u2018Day One\u2019 as originally promised.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Further proof of US contribution of CIA and technical support continued along with $195 Billion Congressional allocation to Ukraine since March 2026. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n One great incentive to pursue a deal with Putin can be found in Trump\u2019s latest approval numbers on the mid term elections show Trump to be at his lowest 32% approval <\/span><\/a>rating\u00a0 <\/span>with the very existence of the GOP in jeopardy.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n While Trump is not known for self awareness, except when his political existence is threatened with serious impeachment while in office, especially if the Senate flips to Democrats which makes Senate impeachment more about incarceration.<\/p>\n Trump\u2019s call to Putin<\/span><\/a> resulted in a sharp reversal<\/span><\/a> with temporary suspension of US sanctions policy<\/span><\/a> until April, 2027 with Russia agreeing to lift restrictions<\/span><\/a> on its sale of fuel abroad.\u00a0 <\/span>Putin agreed to 300,000 tons of diesel fuel (93 Million gallons) compared to US daily usage of 28 Million barrels which is more like a drop in the bucket. \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n According to Trump, in November another 500,000 tons will be followed by 1 million tons \u201cimmediately thereafter<\/i>.\u2019<\/p>\n Trump\u2019s agreement with Putin caught Senate members and analysts off guard who opposed the<\/span><\/a> deal with president of Lipow Oil Associates in Houston stating \u201cIt\u2019s unclear to me how much additional supplies the world is actually going to get.\u201d<\/i>.<\/p>\n While Trump benefited from headlines as if the Administration was initiating a solution to the diesel crisis, the fact is there will be no positive outcome between now and election day on Nov. 3rd<\/sup><\/span> .\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Given Trump\u2019s tendency to exaggerate his every nuance, it remains questionable whether the \u2018deal\u2019 with Russia will ever materialize as he described it.<\/p>\n And who would suddenly surface to dare criticize Trump\u2019s deal with Putin but the man who can take credit for cancelling the April 2022 Istanbul peace agreement<\/span><\/a> between Ukraine and Russia.<\/p>\n Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson looking like he\u2019s been on a week long binge<\/span><\/a> knows nothing about the history of the Russia Ukraine Nato conflict citing that it is \u2018transparently ridiculous to blame Ukraine for the spike in prices that obviously began with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz\u201d.<\/i><\/p>\n If Johnson had any concern for Ukraine lives in 2022, he would have not disturbed the pending peace agreement in Istanbul. \u00a0 <\/span>In addition, UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham expressed his full \u2018complete solidarity\u2019<\/i><\/span><\/a> in support to Zelensky.<\/p>\n The irony remains inescapable that as President Trump has called for Zelensky to be replaced, saying Ukraine \u201cneeds a leader who can end the war with<\/i> Russia<\/i>.\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n President Trump went on to express his thoughts<\/span><\/a> on how to end (albeit war in Iran) as a direct parallel that a new President<\/span><\/a> would end the Ukraine war.<\/p>\n Renee Parsons\u00a0<\/i><\/b>has been an elected public official in Colorado, an environmental lobbyist with Friends of the Earth and a staff member in the US House of Representative in Washington, DC.
