{"id":82437,"date":"2026-10-02T11:52:55","date_gmt":"2026-10-02T15:52:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateofthenation.info\/?p=82437"},"modified":"2026-10-02T11:53:26","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T15:53:26","slug":"forget-the-october-surprises-this-year-its-the-november-surprise-to-watch-out-for","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateofthenation.info\/?p=82437","title":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Forget the October Surprises, this year it&#8217;s the November Surprise to watch out for<\/b><\/h2>"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Mid Term Election to be Decided in the Senate<\/h2>\n<p><!--more-->Renee Parsons<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">While there is much debate and consternation whether the GOP will retain control of Congress during the mid term election or whether the GOP will survive as a political party, the grim reality is that the Republicans have done little to retain their hold.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Neither the GOP, especially the Senate has gone out of its way to persuade the American public to support the President\u2019s party, the President himself appears indifferent to the outcome of mid terms.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Anyone who has been following Trump\u2019s career knows that to be pure malarky; while it is true he will find <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/08\/27\/politics\/trump-midterm-loss-republicans\"><span class=\"s1\">others to blame<\/span><\/a>.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">As of today, it is pretty much a given that the House will flip to the Democrats, yet the Senate is less certain although leaning in the Democrat direction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">It would seem a simple deduction, a no-brainer to conclude that in order to keep their seats which are valued at $175 K annually plus generous benefits in addition to their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trackaipac.com\/candidates\"><span class=\"s1\">AIPAC \u201cincentive\u201d,<\/span><\/a> those Members would throw a few votes to Americans who will be deciding their electoral fate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">That would seem logical but not in the US Senate where GOP Senators display a more arrogant, narcissistic view of electoral reality.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The breakdown is that there are <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/United_States_Senate_elections,_2026\"><span class=\"s1\">thirty three Senate seats<\/span><\/a> up for re election; of those thirty three, thirteen are currently held by Democrats and <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/United_States_Senate_elections,_2026\"><span class=\"s1\">twenty are Republican<\/span><\/a> Senate seats.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">With that spread, the bottom line is that only <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/United_States_Senate_elections,_2026\"><span class=\"s1\">four GOP seats<\/span><\/a> need to flip to the Dems for the GOP to lose control of the Senate in favor of the Democrats. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">***<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Since February 28<span class=\"s2\"><sup>th<\/sup><\/span>, the US has conducted an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dropsitenews.com\/p\/minab-school-massacre-iran-war-children-families\"><span class=\"s1\">unconstitutional, unprovoked<\/span><\/a> attack on Iran during peace negotiations which began with the assassination of Iran\u2019s Ayatollah and an attack on a school in Minab claiming the lives of 150 school children and teachers.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">To date, there has been no American apology or explanation for the attacks which constitutes US war crimes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">On September 24<span class=\"s2\"><sup>th<\/sup><\/span>, the Senate voted for the thirteenth time since February against the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/06\/24\/johnson-war-powers-trump-iran.html?&amp;doc=108367577\"><span class=\"s1\">War Powers Act<\/span><\/a> on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.gov\/legislative\/LIS\/roll_call_votes\/vote1192\/vote_119_2_00244.htm\"><span class=\"s1\">49 \u2013 50 vote<\/span><\/a> with four Republican Senators voting in support of War Powers to end the Iran War.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Those four GOP Senators were Sen. Collins (Maine), Sen. Tillis (NC), Sen. Murkowski (Alaska) and Sen. Paul (Ky.) with Sen. Fetterman (D-Pa.) voting against the War Powers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The House previously voted <a href=\"https:\/\/clerk.house.gov\/Votes\/2026282\"><span class=\"s1\">214-208<\/span><\/a><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>with seven Gop Members not voting in support of War Powers which, if it had prevailed in the Senate, would have directed President Trump to remove U.S. troops from hostilities in Iran without Congressional authorization.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">If President Trump was truly searching for a way out of the conflict, a positive Senate vote would have provided him the option.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">***<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">On March 5, 2026 Sen. Chris van Hollen (D-Md) sent a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanhollen.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/letter_to_sec_rubio_on_accountability_for_uscitizendeathsinthewestbank.pdf\"><span class=\"s1\">letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio,<\/span><\/a> Attorney General Pam Bondi and US Ambassador Huckabee citing the murder of <span class=\"s3\"><i>nine Americans<\/i><\/span> by Israel settlers in the West Bank.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">That letter, the second to have been sent,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>was signed by thirty one Democratic Senators,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>requesting an independent investigation and an update on the status of investigations into the killings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">With no response from the Trump Administration, Sen. Chris van Hollen (D-Md) offered the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanhollen.senate.gov\/news\/press-releases\/van-hollen-kaine-sanders-lead-20-senators-in-introducing-privileged-resolution-seeking-answers-on-west-bank-violence\"><span class=\"s1\">West Bank Violence Prevention Act<\/span><\/a>, S852 on September 24<span class=\"s2\"><sup>th<\/sup><\/span> which would have required the State Department to conduct an investigation into the increasing violence in the West Bank regarding those <span class=\"s3\"><i>nine murdered Americans<\/i><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">That was it \u2013 no big prosecution or<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>trial but merely a report to Congress requesting information on Israel&#8217;s human rights practices pursuant to section 502B(c) of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 but even that small token of concern was too much for the Senate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">And on September 29, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.gov\/legislative\/LIS\/roll_call_votes\/vote1192\/vote_119_2_00252.htm#position\"><span class=\"s1\">Senate voted 47 \u2013 51<\/span><\/a> (with 2 Not Voting) against the Act with the only Republican Aye vote being Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.) and the only Democratic Nay vote being Sen. Fetterman (Pa.).<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">What is especially curious it that those Republican votes included a number of GOP Senators who might have previously been recognized as somewhat \u2018independent\u2019 or objective who have recently thrown away their votes presumably to their favorite <a href=\"https:\/\/whofundsmyrep.com\/rankings\/senate\"><span class=\"s1\">AIPAC Donor<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Despite the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/politics\/2026\/03\/25\/americans-broadly-disapprove-of-u-s-military-action-in-iran\/\"><span class=\"s1\">American public\u2019s opposition<\/span><\/a> to Trump\u2019s handling of the Iran war (61%), GOP Members of the Senate, especially those standing for re-election are willing to vote against the American public as they willingly risk their own reelection.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Let American Voices by Heard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b><i>Renee Parsons\u00a0<\/i><\/b><i>has been an elected public official in Colorado, an environmental lobbyist with Friends of the Earth and a staff member in the US House of Representative in Washington, DC.
