DOONBEG, Ireland: President Donald Trump suggested on Sunday the United \u200bStates could stay in Iran and \u201ckeep the oil,\u201d drawing a parallel with a US push to take control of a fifth of Venezuela\u2019s vast oil reserves.<\/p>\n

On a trip to Ireland for meetings and to watch golf, he reiterated that \u200che still \u200cexpected the Iran \u200bwar \u200cto \u2060end this \u200byear, possibly just \u2060after midterm elections due in the United States in November.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the Irish Open golf championship, Trump added that the price of gasoline would \u201cdrop like a rock\u201d once the Iran war ended.<\/p>\n

Turmoil in the \u2060Middle East has roiled oil \u200cmarkets, with oil traders \u200cexpecting prices to rise \u200bagain on Monday \u200cafter an attack on a Saudi oil \u200cpipeline.<\/p>\n

Trump said that he would only make the \u201cright deal\u201d and wouldn\u2019t do one that was \u201cno good,\u201d adding that Iran was \u201ccalling constantly\u201d for peace \u200ctalks \u2014 an assertion that Tehran has dismissed in the past.<\/p>\n

But the \u2060president \u2060also introduced another option: stay engaged with Iran. He drew a parallel with the US deal in Venezuela, announced in August.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll ultimately get out (of Iran), unless we decide to stay and keep the oil like Venezuela,\u201d Trump said, adding that the US revenue from Venezuela has \u201cpaid for the war many times.\u201d<\/p>\n
