(NewsNation) \u2014 Former NBA center Enes Kanter Freedom has declared for the 2027\u00a0WNBA\u00a0<\/a>Draft.<\/p>\n

Freedom played 11 seasons in the NBA before he was waived by the Houston Rockets in February 2022.<\/p>\n

Freedom is listed as 6 feet 10 inches and 250 pounds on his\u00a0NBA player profile<\/a>. His desire to play in the WNBA follows controversy amongst some players, several of whom have said they would welcome transgender athletes to be part of a WNBA team.<\/p>\n

Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham has become the\u00a0poster child for the debate<\/a>\u00a0after telling ESPN her thoughts on\u00a0transgender athletes in women\u2019s sports<\/a>.<\/p>\n
