On August 1, the former Georgia Republican posted a photo on X depicting her alongside media personality\u00a0Tucker Carlson<\/a>,\u00a0Rep. Thomas Massie<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Joe Kent<\/a>, the former director of the National Counterterrorism Center. Also pictured was conservative journalist\u00a0Brian Glenn<\/a>, whom Greene married in Las Vegas on Tuesday.<\/p>\n \u201cWe said no more foreign wars and we meant it and supported Donald Trump because he made that promise,\u201d Greene wrote. \u201cBut he\u2019s betrayed us all. Our commitment is America First for all Americans, right, left, and center,\u201d she continued.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe movement has begun,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n Greene,\u00a0who resigned from Congress in January<\/a>, had previously discussed the possibility of forming a new political party after growing \u201cfed up\u201d with Republicans.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cI think there\u2019s a group of us that if we decide to align, we could launch a true America-focused party that doesn\u2019t fall into the traps of Democrats or Republicans, but could align some serious players from the right and the left,\u201d she told\u00a0Piers Morgan<\/a>\u00a0on June 30.<\/p>\n Carlson, a former Fox News host turned popular podcaster, echoed this sentiment in July, telling\u00a0The Columbia Journalism Review<\/em><\/a>: \u201cThere\u2019s going to be a third party, and I\u2019m going to do everything I can to bring that about.\u201d<\/p>\n Greene and Massie, who lost his Kentucky primary earlier this year to a Trump-backed rival, also\u00a0vacationed together in May<\/a>, where they discussed \u201cthe future of politics in America.\u201d<\/p>\n Greene, Massie, Kent and Carlson all turned against Trump over the Iran war, launched in February, arguing that it amounted to a betrayal of his campaign promise to end \u201cforever wars.\u201d<\/p>\n Carlson called the war \u201cdisgusting and evil,\u201d while Kent \u2014 who served as Trump\u2019s counterterrorism chief \u2014\u00a0resigned in March over his opposition to the conflict<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran,\u201d Kent wrote in a letter posted to X. \u201cIran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.\u201d<\/p>\n Greene, meanwhile, had already broken with Trump over the Epstein files by the time the war began. After Trump publicly attacked her, she said she would resign from Congress rather than \u201cendure a hurtful and hateful primary<\/a>.\u201d Massie had also split with Trump over the Epstein files and\u00a0lost his primary in May<\/a>\u00a0to retired Navy SEAL Ed Gallrein, a Trump loyalist. His current term ends in January.<\/p>\n In late July, Massie was among several Republicans who voted for a\u00a0war powers resolution<\/a>\u00a0aimed at reining in Trump\u2019s authority to wage the Iran war. The measure passed the House 214-208.<\/p>\n Trump has unleashed harsh attacks on the former MAGA allies who turned against him, calling Greene a \u201ctraitor,\u201d Kent a \u201cSLEAZEBAG,\u201d Carlson a \u201cLow IQ person\u201d and Massie \u201cWeak and Pathetic.\u201d<\/p>\n In response to broader criticism of the war \u2014 which has led to the death of\u00a018 U.S. service members<\/a>\u00a0and thousands of Iranians \u2014 Trump has said the conflict is necessary to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.<\/p>\n While multiple polls show that\u00a0most Americans oppose a war with Iran<\/a>, history suggests that a third party would face steep odds of success.
