Sen.\u00a0Ron Johnson\u00a0<\/a><\/span>(R-Wis.) expressed concern Wednesday that Israel was \u201ccoerced\u201d into its ceasefire agreement with Palestinian militant group Hamas.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m hoping they weren\u2019t coerced into a deal before they finish what they need to finish, [which was the] destruction of Hamas, so that Hamas can\u2019t rise again and threaten them again [in a] few years,\u201d Johnson told NewsNation\u2019s Blake Burman on \u201cThe Hill.\u201d<\/p>\n The ceasefire agreement,\u00a0unveiled Wednesday<\/a>, is expected to begin Sunday, with its first phase including a six-week ceasefire, as well as Hamas releasing 33 hostages out of an estimated 94 people both alive and dead, that it has held for over a year.<\/p>\n President Biden\u00a0<\/a><\/span>hailed the agreement on Wednesday, saying getting \u201cto this deal has not been easy.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve worked on foreign policy for decades. This was one of the toughest negotiations I\u2019ve ever experienced. We reached this point because to the pressure Israel built on Hamas, backed by the United States,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n White House national security adviser\u00a0Jake Sullivan\u00a0<\/a><\/span>had said in an interview<\/a>\u00a0earlier this week that the U.S. was \u201cso close to a ceasefire and hostage deal\u201d in Gaza.<\/p>\n \u201cNumber one, we are so close to a ceasefire and hostage deal, and I think there is a very distinct possibility that we get it across the line this week, before President Biden leaves office,\u201d Sullivan said Monday.<\/p>\n In his NewsNation appearance Wednesday, Johnson said the ceasefire agreement is \u201cgood news.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s good to see the \u2014 the violence cease,\u201d he added. \u201cHopefully, that continues, but we [need to] see all the hostages released; we [need to] see all the hostages accounted for.\u201d<\/p>\n
