NEW YORK (AP) \u2014 In a remarkable sign of the turmoil at CBS\u2019s top-rated \u201c60 Minutes,\u201d correspondent Scott Pelley said CBS News head Bari Weiss was \u201cmurdering the show\u201d and accused its new producer of having \u201cslender qualifications\u201d for the job, according to reports.<\/p>\n
Pelley made his accusations in an introductory meeting Monday between the newsmagazine\u2019s staff and Nick Bilton, the new executive producer named by Weiss last week, according to a detailed report on the\u00a0Status website<\/a><\/span>, which said it had heard a recording of the meeting. Weiss herself was not present, according to the report. Status specializes in media news and analysis.<\/p>\n Status reported that Pelley, the longtime \u201c60 Minutes\u201d correspondent, began grilling Bilton at the 10 a.m. meeting about\u00a0the firings last week of Bilton\u2019s predecessor, Tanya Simon, and correspondents Sharyn Alfonsi and Cecilia Vega.<\/a><\/span>\u00a0Status also reported that Pelley told Bilton, a former technology journalist and filmmaker with no traditional broadcast news experience, that his qualifications for the position were \u201cslender.\u201d<\/p>\n Pelley also charged, according to Status, that Weiss herself had \u201cno qualifications for her job,\u201d and said the changes she had made to \u201cCBS Evening News,\u201d which Pelley once anchored, \u201chave been catastrophic.\u201d<\/p>\n It added that Bilton insisted that \u201cBari loves this institution\u201d and \u201cshe loves \u201960 Minutes\u2019\u201d \u2014 to which Pelley countered, \u201cShe\u2019s murdering \u201860 minutes.\u2019 She does not love this place. She was brought in to kill it and she\u2019s doing exactly that.\u201d<\/p>\n
