This all-important US-China summit powwow, the first in nine years, was cancelled in March by War Power President Trump fighting a longer than expected war against Iran. Two months later the powwow summit turned into the kowtow summit. The global balance of power differential had dramatically shifted from US to China for all the world to see. The missing Xi at the airport shows who the real boss is now. In his gaping absence, Xi Jinping dispatched at the airport mostly Chinese flag waving kids to meet and greet the Trump entourage. Nowhere to be found was not only Xi, but every high-ranking Chinese government official, sending the loud and clear message to the entire world that the changing of the hegemonic guard has just taken place.<\/p>\n In stark contrast to the fallen, disgraced US president, at this summit Xi Jinping holds every bargaining chip of leverage and pressure to bear upon the inferior, humiliated, ego-driven Trump, who has singlehandedly done his best to plunge the world off a WWIII cliff<\/a>, freefalling into global destitution and despair. On Trump\u2019s never admitted \u201cwish list\u201d on this trip is finding a way to finagle Xi as Iran\u2019s closest strategic ally to mercifully throw a desperately needed, face-saving lifeline off-ramp to end Trump\u2019s disastrously illegal war of aggression against his Middle East opponent that has dethroned America as top dog bully of the world.<\/p>\n The thoroughly disgraced world pariah no longer can boast being the sole global superpower, not when it\u2019s getting its bloody ass kicked by a much smaller Mideast military regional power Iran. So it seems inevitable, if not preferable, that Taiwan merge peacefully and seamlessly as possible with its Chinese neighbor the People\u2019s Republic of China, though the human rights and freedom that Taiwanese people may be accustomed to, may regretfully be significantly reduced by PRC\u2019s authoritarian government that appears today\u2019s foremost globalist model for technocratic neo-feudal tyranny.<\/p>\n The startling master-slave relationship dynamics visibly displayed before the rest of the world between rising power China and the falling, now has-been power the US, I concede that my May 12th<\/sup> article<\/a> raising the viable threat possibility that the recent US defense deal struck with Indonesia may lead to US attempting to seize control over the Strait of Malacca to choke off China from its lifeblood gas\/oil supply line, may now appear far less threatening. Without either the US naval warships nor the fighting force, in its now demoted role as second-rate or more third-rate power, the US appears far too weak to even dare pull off such a dangerous, risky venture. So, at least in that regard, it seems the disastrous outcome of America plunging into a WWIII worst case scenario defeat against China just might be avoided after all.<\/p>\n Just the same, we are not out of the woods yet. On Thursday May 14th<\/sup>, Chinese President Xi stated<\/a>:<\/p>\n Can China and the U.S. transcend the so-called \u2018Thucydides Trap\u2019 and forge a new paradigm of major-country relations?<\/em><\/p>\n Thucydides, an ancient Greek historian and military commander wrote his treatise History of the Peloponnesian War<\/em>(431-401BC), noting that descending power Athens launched a series of wars against ascending power Sparta in what eventually led to Sparta\u2019s victory. According to political scientist Graham Allison\u2019s<\/a> Harvard study, the need for the US and China to avoid the \u201c<\/strong>Thucydides Trap<\/a>\u201d has generated a lot of attention this week after Xi Jinping made specific reference to the Athens-Sparta rivalry as depicted in Thucydides\u2019 History of the Peloponnesian War<\/em> (book one, chapter 23) which states:<\/p>\n The growth of the power of Athens, and the alarm which this inspired in Lacedaemon [Sparta], made war inevitable.<\/em><\/p>\n Applied to today\u2019s ascending power China versus descending power US, according to Graham Allison\u2019s theory, there appears a 75% probability that the US will feel compelled to initiate war against China based on Allison\u2019s historical precedence model showing 12 of the last 16 historical rivalries followed suit, falling for the \u201ctrap,\u201d facing off in a warring power struggle over which side is the ruling kingpin, playing out the treacherous folly of the Thucydides Trap.<\/p>\n Though history shows that when a descending power ignites a war against its chief competitor holding the ascending power, as China now possesses, starting a war against the emerging stronger opponent only hastens the demise of the war initiator. Astutely aware, Xi directly warned Trump and US against the foolishness of starting a war it cannot win against rising China, or for that matter Russia, especially after proving itself the humiliated loser after igniting war against Iran, a lesser military power than US, Russia and China. Ignorant Trump who no doubt never heard of Thucydides Trap, mistakenly thinks that Xi pointed to Biden\u2019s destructive<\/a> policies, not his own lawless, aggressive turned kiss-ass policy to Xi\u2019s face. This clueless demented fool fails to realize he is way outclassed, outsmarted and outplayed on today\u2019s geopolitics stage, disgracing both himself and the US in front of the entire world like never before seen in America\u2019s history.<\/p>\n That said, based on America\u2019s past history, it has virtually always demonstrated that it is the bullying aggressor, either starting, attacking and\/or invading other nations at near constant will for Empire lust. And even in the few wars that the US played a cagier, passive-aggressive role through embargo or other provocative aggression to willfully, purposely set up, entrap and\/or force other nations to initiate attack on the US. Cases in point include WWII when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor<\/a> and Korean War or in the First World War the sinking of the RMS Lusitania<\/a>. 233 out of the 250 years the United States has been a sovereign independent nation, 93% of the time, the US has been the aggressor sending its American soldiers off to kill and die on foreign soil somewhere in the world. China\u2019s primary means of exercising influence and rising dominance is accomplished stealthily through soft power investment in other nations\u2019 infrastructure, closer to a win-win basis. This is how its modern Silk Road aka Belt and Road Initiative is materializing as a land route from Pacific Asia spreading thousands of miles westward to the Middle East, Africa and Europe.<\/p>\n So can the Thucydides Trap this time be avoided? Let\u2019s hope the new Numero Uno China\u2019s strategic binding partnerships with Russia and Iran as BRICS leaders (along with on the fence India) will exercise far more judicious, fair-minded policies than the freefalling Anglo-American-Zio Empire saga, by building win-win partnerships with the multipolar Global South nation majority.
