JTA \u2014 A new group opposing AIPAC is backing anti-Israel candidates across party lines. Some of its endorsees have blamed Israel and Jews for 9\/11 and the Charlie Kirk assassination. Its founder claims the bloody Hamas-led invasion of October 7, 2023, was a \u201cfalse flag\u201d operation and has\u00a0referred<\/a>\u00a0to Jewish people as \u201cthe Synagogue of Satan.\u201d<\/p>\n

This is the Anti-Zionist America PAC, or AZAPAC.<\/p>\n

With a stated aim to \u201cde-Zionize\u201d the American government and end military aid to Israel, AZAPAC is unlike the other PACs that have\u00a0recently popped up<\/a>\u00a0as a counterweight to AIPAC, the pro-Israel lobby that has poured millions of dollars into political races across the country.<\/p>\n

Those groups \u2014 including American Priorities, PAL PAC and Citizens Again AIPAC Corruption \u2014 are rallying their support around a brand of pro-Palestinian progressives in line with Congress\u2019s left-wing \u201cSquad\u201d members. Michael Rectenwald, AZAPAC\u2019s founder and a self-described libertarian, is taking a different approach.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not like leftist anti-Zionists, calling for \u2018from the river to the sea\u2019 and all this nonsense,\u201d said Rectenwald in an interview. \u201cWe are not trying to say the State of Israel should not exist. That is not our concern. Our concern is the US government only, and what it\u2019s doing.\u201d<\/p>\n
