Update (1315ET):\u00a0<\/em>President Donald Trump has ousted Attorney General Pam Bondi<\/strong>, multiple outlets report. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche is serving as acting AG in the interim.<\/p>\n

The move comes amid White House frustration with Bondi\u2019s leadership at the Justice Department –\u00a0 particularly her handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files and what Trump viewed as insufficient aggression in targeting his political opponents. Trump had privately discussed firing her and floated EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin (or Blanche) as a possible replacement.<\/p>\n

Bondi met with Trump in the Oval Office Wednesday night ahead of his speech to the nation on the war in Iran, where she reportedly was informed of her ouster, according to two sources familiar with the meeting.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

One of those sources said that\u00a0by the time Trump took his place behind the podium for the address, Bondi already lost her job and was on her way back to Florida.\u00a0<\/strong>–Fox News<\/a><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And according to the\u00a0WSJ,\u00a0<\/em>Trump weighed\u00a0firing her in January but was persuaded not to do so.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

In a Thursday statement,\u00a0Trump called Bondi “a Great American Patriot and a loyal friend,<\/strong>\u00a0who faithfully served as my Attorney General over the past year,” adding “she will be transitioning to a much needed and important new job in the private sector, to be announced at a date in the near future, and our Deputy Attorney General, and a very talented and respected Legal Mind,\u00a0Todd Blanche, will step in to serve as Acting Attorney General.<\/strong>”<\/p>\n
