Donald Trump told Britain on Tuesday to \u201cget your own oil\u201d as he urged America\u2019s allies to reopen the Strait of Hormuz themselves.<\/p>\n
Singling out the UK, the US president rebuked countries for refusing to \u201cget involved\u201d in the American-Israeli war against Iran, suggesting they learn \u201chow to fight\u201d.<\/p>\n
Nato partners have been reluctant to help reopen the critical waterway, through which 20 per cent of the world\u2019s oil typically travels. Tehran has effectively shut down the strait for weeks, sending global oil and gas prices spiralling.<\/p>\n
Later on Tuesday, Pete Hegseth, the US defence secretary, reiterated Mr Trump\u2019s criticisms of the UK\u2019s refusal to send warships.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not just the US navy, last time I checked there was meant to be a big, bad Royal Navy to help as well,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Mr Trump wrote on Truth Social: \u201cAll of those countries that can\u2019t get jet fuel because of the Strait of Hormuz, like the United Kingdom, which refused to get involved in the decapitation of Iran, I have a suggestion for you.<\/p>\n
\u201cNumber 1, buy from the US, we have plenty, and Number 2, build up some delayed courage, go to the Strait, and just TAKE IT.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added: \u201cYou\u2019ll have to start learning how to fight for yourself, the USA won\u2019t be there to help you any more, just like you weren\u2019t there for us. Iran has been, essentially, decimated. The hard part is done. Go get your own oil!\u201d<\/p>\n
