This occurred as attacks on Western forces within Iraq, including U.S. and Italian military bases, have escalated as part of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/militarywatchmagazine.com\/article\/us-pushes-ceasefire-iranian-massive-damage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ongoing U.S.-Iranian war<\/a>. The U.S. Armed Forces Central Command\u00a0 confirmed the loss of a KC-135, attributing it to a technical issue, while the second KC-135 targeted managed to land in Israel after sustaining damage. It was later confirmed that four servicemen were killed on the destroyed aircraft, with a further two missing.\u00a0With\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/militarywatchmagazine.com\/article\/satellite-images-us-foreign-airbase-devastated\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S. military bases<\/a>\u00a0in the gulf region having sustained\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/militarywatchmagazine.com\/article\/iranian-strikes-destroyed-antimissile-radars\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">extreme damage\u00a0<\/a>from Iranian strikes, U.S. combat aircraft have been forced to operate from bases further afield, increasing reliance on the KC-135 for refuelling support.
