{"id":53836,"date":"2026-03-06T18:45:36","date_gmt":"2026-03-06T23:45:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateofthenation.info\/?p=53836"},"modified":"2026-03-06T18:45:36","modified_gmt":"2026-03-06T23:45:36","slug":"yet-another-dastardly-israeli-attempt-to-compel-nato-to-enter-the-war-against-iran","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateofthenation.info\/?p=53836","title":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Yet another dastardly Israeli attempt to compel NATO to enter the war against Iran<\/b><\/h2>"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--more--><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-53837\" src=\"http:\/\/stateofthenation.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Screenshot-2026-03-06-at-6.42.50-PM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"543\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateofthenation.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Screenshot-2026-03-06-at-6.42.50-PM.png 543w, https:\/\/stateofthenation.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Screenshot-2026-03-06-at-6.42.50-PM-300x193.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 543px) 100vw, 543px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">NATO air and missile defense systems shot down an Iranian ballistic missile headed toward Turkish airspace, Turkey\u2019s ministry of defense said Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">The missile was detected as it traveled through Iraqi and Syrian airspace and\u00a0was shot down by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.stripes.com\/theaters\/europe\/2026-03-04\/turkey-missile-israel-20948013.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NATO air defenses<\/a>\u00a0in the\u00a0eastern Mediterranean Sea,\u00a0\u200bthe ministry said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">It fell in the Hatay province in southeastern Turkey along the country\u2019s Mediterranean coast, according to the statement. There were no injuries or deaths.<\/p>\n<div class=\"flex center mb4 dn-li\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.stripes.com\/theaters\/us\/2026-03-04\/hegseth-caine-provide-iran-updates-20948456.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said during a news conference<\/a>\u00a0Wednesday that there was no indication the incident would trigger NATO\u2019s Article Five provision, which states an attack on one calls for a collective response from the whole alliance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">In its statement, the Turkish ministry of defense said that while it supports regional stability and peace, it would take all necessary steps to defend its territory and citizens \u201cregardless of who or where the threat comes from.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">The ministry said it would continue to consult NATO and other allies in ensuring conflict in the region did not spread.<\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">There are five U.S. Arleigh Burke-class destroyers currently in the eastern Mediterranean. The region also is patrolled by the multinational Standing NATO Maritime Group 2.<\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">NATO\u2019s missile defense system, which involves a U.S. Aegis Ashore site in Romania and U.S Navy destroyers out of Rota, Spain, was initiated over 15 years ago and developed in phases over time with a ballistic missile threat from Iran in mind.\u00a0The NATO system includes a missile defense suite in Poland and an early-warning mountaintop radar in Kurecik, Turkey.<\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">Allison Hart, NATO spokeswoman, said the alliance remains vigilant in the wake of the strike attempt on Turkey.<\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">\u201cWe condemn Iran\u2019s targeting of T\u00fcrkiye.
