An inquiry into the background of flamboyant\u00a0American entrepreneur Donald J.\u00a0Trump provides some surprising insights\u00a0into Trump\u2019s path to power and influence,\u00a0for the fact is that Trump\u2019s rise to\u00a0stardom came as a direct consequence of his having\u00a0functioned as hardly more than a colorful front man\u00a0for some very wealthy behind-the-scenes sponsors.<\/p>\n

Everyone knows, of course, about Trump\u2019s gambling\u00a0operations and of the wide-ranging links of the\u00a0gambling industry to organized crime. But the story\u00a0is much bigger than that. In his own memoir,\u00a0The Art\u00a0<\/em>of the Deal<\/em>, Trump proudly described how in 1987\u00a0he bought his first casino interests when he purchased\u00a093% of the voting stock in the Resorts International\u00a0gambling concern.<\/p>\n

What Trump doesn\u2019t tell his readers is what the\u00a0late Andrew St. George reported in\u00a0The Spotlight<\/em>\u00a0on\u00a0October 30, 1978 (and in the previous September 25, 1978,\u00a0issue): Resorts International was established and\u00a0controlled by front men for the Rockefeller and\u00a0Rothschild families and their \u201cenforcers\u201d in the\u00a0Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and its allied intelligence agency, Israel\u2019s Mossad.<\/p>\n

What made the report so explosive was that this\u00a0newspaper pointed out that the illegally rigged casinos\u00a0were being operated with the collusion of \u201crespectable\u201d\u00a0politicians, law enforcement officials,\u00a0Wall Street financiers who floated loans to finance\u00a0the gambling resorts and the high-profile gambling\u00a0resort operators themselves.<\/p>\n

St. George pointed out that many of these casino\u00a0resorts run by the mob through a variety of front\u00a0men have actually been engaged in a de facto partnership\u00a0with behind-the-scenes mobsters who have\u00a0assisted the CIA and the Mossad in massive laundering\u00a0of drug and gambling profits that have been\u00a0channeled into covert operations of the two allied
\nintelligence agencies. In return, the CIA and the\u00a0Mossad, using their own influence, have provided\u00a0\u201cprotection\u201d for the illegally fixed gambling operations,\u00a0preventing law enforcement authorities from\u00a0cracking down on this corruption.<\/p>\n

Where does would-be president Trump fit into\u00a0the picture? To find the answer, one must turn to the\u00a0murky origins of Resorts International.<\/p>\n

Resorts evolved from a CIA front company set up\u00a0in the early 1950s by then-CIA director Allen W. Dulles\u00a0and his close associate, three-term New York Governor\u00a0Thomas E. Dewey, political functionary in the\u00a0so-called \u201cRockefeller Republican\u201d wing of the GOP.<\/p>\n

The front company in question was the innocuously\u00a0named Mary Carter Paint Company, which operated a\u00a0national chain of paint stores but was set up to function\u00a0as a covert CIA money-laundering operation.<\/p>\n

In 1958-59 Dewey and a number of associates\u00a0used a reported $2 million in CIA funds to buy a controlling\u00a0interest in the Crosby-Miller Corporation\u00a0(headed by Dewey friend James Crosby), which was\u00a0then merged with Mary Carter.<\/p>\n

Among other things, the new corporation laundered\u00a0CIA money for arming the anti-Castro Cuban\u00a0exiles. The company also launched into lucrative\u00a0casino gambling enterprises in the Caribbean where\u00a0the CIA was quite active during that period, having\u00a0engaged the Lansky crime syndicate in now-thoroughly\u00a0documented and widely known plots to topple\u00a0Fidel Castro who had enraged the mob by\u00a0closing down its Cuban gambling enterprises.<\/p>\n

Thus it should be no surprise that in 1963, Alvin\u00a0I. Malnik, a top henchman of crime syndicate boss\u00a0Meyer Lansky, was found to be closely connected\u00a0to the operations of Mary Carter Paint.<\/p>\n

In 1963, Mary Carter Paint spun off its paint division\u00a0and during the next several years began developing\u00a0its casino operations, particularly in the\u00a0Bahamas. In 1967-68, Mary Carter Paint officially\u00a0changed its name to Resorts International and began\u00a0massive international expansion.\u00a0The Spotlight<\/em>\u00a0determined\u00a0that several principal investors provided the\u00a0funds and assets for the venture:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Meyer Lansky, the acknowledged \u201cchairman of\u00a0the board\u201d and chief financier of the underworld\u00a0gambling syndicate, who maintained his own longstanding\u00a0ties to not only Israel and the Mossad, but\u00a0also the CIA and the American intelligence community;<\/p>\n

\u2022 David Rockefeller, head of the Rockefeller financial\u00a0empire, who provided his family\u2019s clout and\u00a0CIA and global banking connections to assist in the\u00a0operation;<\/p>\n

\u2022 The Investors Overseas Service (IOS), then the\u00a0world\u2019s largest flight-capital conglomerate, controlling\u00a0assets worth $2.5 billion.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Tibor Rosenbaum, who was not only the\u00a0Mossad\u2019s Swiss-based chief financier behind covert\u00a0arms deals but also the head of the Banque De\u00a0Credit Internationale of Geneva, the Lansky syndicate\u2019s\u00a0chief European money laundry; and<\/p>\n

\u2022 Baron Edmond de Rothschild of the European\u00a0banking family and a personal business partner of\u00a0Rosenbaum in Rosenbaum\u2019s Mossad-related ventures\u00a0ranging far and wide; and lastly,<\/p>\n

\u2022 William Mellon Hitchcock, one of the heirs to\u00a0the Mellon family fortune (one of America\u2019s largest\u00a0private family fortunes, which, for many years, has\u00a0also maintained close ties with the CIA).<\/p>\n

Resorts International expanded by leaps and\u00a0bounds and soon became one of the most profitable\u00a0of all the gambling enterprises, and by 1970 the underworld\u00a0figures who were running the casinos (in\u00a0league with their behind-the-scenes partners) began\u00a0moving to expand casino gambling in the United\u00a0States.<\/p>\n

Mob chief Lansky called a high-level meeting of\u00a0gambling syndicate figures in Acapulco, Mexico and\u00a0there the assembled mobsters pinpointed the fading\u00a0resort of Atlantic City as their first new target. (Prior\u00a0to that time, of course, the mob had already established\u00a0Nevada as the only outpost of legalized gambling\u00a0on U.S. soil.)<\/p>\n

In the wake of this meeting, the resources of Resorts\u00a0International were used (publicly and privately)\u00a0to begin the lobbying campaign that resulted\u00a0in the legalizing of gambling in Atlantic City and\u00a0once the New Jersey legislature opened up the Garden\u00a0State, Resorts moved in.<\/p>\n

In 1987, upon the death of longtime CIA front man\u00a0James Crosby, the nominal head of Resorts International,\u00a0up-and-coming young New York real estate tycoon\u00a0Donald Trump stepped into the picture and\u00a0bought Crosby\u2019s interest in the gambling empire.<\/p>\n

Trump soon became a household name, with his\u00a0colorful personality and his insistence upon naming\u00a0a variety of luxury hotels, apartment houses and\u00a0other commercial ventures after himself. But while\u00a0the name \u201cTrump\u201d appeared in the headlines, the\u00a0names of the real movers behind Resorts International\u00a0remained hidden from public view.<\/p>\n
