The patients come with a strikingly odd symptom: visions of pint-sized, elf-like figures \u2013 marching under doors, crawling up walls and clinging to furniture.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">The hospital\u00a0<a class=\"sc-f9178328-0 iCaRzc\" href=\"https:\/\/lcjzen.whuhzzs.com\/article\/doi\/10.13201\/j.issn.1009-5918.2023.05.007\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">treats hundreds of these cases<\/a>\u00a0every year. All share a common culprit:\u00a0<i id=\"lanmaoa-asiatica\" class=\"sc-d16436d-0 iVdNuz\">Lanmaoa asiatica<\/i>, a type of mushroom that forms symbiotic relationships with pine trees in nearby forests and is a locally popular food, known for its savory, umami-packed flavor.
