LOS ANGELES \u2014 Rob Reiner\u2019s son Nick was notorious for being violent, and those around him \u201cinstantly knew\u2019\u2019 he was the one who\u00a0allegedly murdered his parents<\/a>, friends and neighbors told The Post on Monday.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is not the first time their son has been violent,\u2019\u2019 a longtime neighbor of the victims said of\u00a0Nick Reiner<\/a>, 32, who is charged with slitting the throats of his parents in the family\u2019s Los Angeles mansion.<\/p>\n \u201cI know of another incident a few years back with Nick, but I won\u2019t say more than that,\u2019\u2019 added the man, who declined to give his name. \u201cI just never thought it would ever get to this point.<\/p>\n \u201cRob was always heartbroken that his son couldn\u2019t beat his addiction,\u2019\u2019 the resident said of the famed actor-director and the long-drug-addled suspect.<\/p>\n \u201cI know they wanted him to get help, go to rehab, but he wanted to get help while at home \u2014 he did not want to get treatment at a facility,\u2019\u2019 the neighbor said.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd I know they have argued about that for years. Nick has had demons for the longest.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is such a nightmare,\u2019\u2019 the source said. \u201cThe whole thing is a tragedy.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n Nick\u00a0admitted in 2018<\/a>\u00a0that he once trashed his parents\u2019 home during a meth-fueled rage.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s not much of a story. I got totally spun out on uppers \u2014 I think it was coke and something else \u2014 and I was up for days on end,\u201d Nick told the \u201cDopey\u2019\u2019 podcast. \u201cI started punching out some things in my guest house.<\/p>\n \u201cEverything in the guest house got wrecked,\u201d he said. \u201cI literally punched the TV.\u201d<\/p>\n A former classmate of\u00a0Nick\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0told The Post on Monday that the suspect \u2014 who had been in and out of rehab since age 15 \u2014 has \u201calways been troubled\u2019\u2019 and that she \u201cinstantly knew it was him\u2019\u2019 when she heard the news.<\/p>\n A second neighbor of the parents added, \u201cI wasn\u2019t surprised\u2019\u2019 to learn Nick was charged with killing his famed Hollywood actor and director dad, 78, and mom, Michele, 68. The resident declined to elaborate.<\/p>\n A security guard hired by the community to patrol the family\u2019s ritzy Brentwood \u2018hood because of looting after the Palisades Fire in January told The Post that Nick had been living with his parents for at least the past year.<\/p>\n \u201cYou could tell something was a little off with him,\u2019\u2019 the worker, Trevor Taufahema, said of the suspected killer son.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s a strange individual, you know?<\/p>\n \u201cYou can tell he had, like, some problems with drug addiction,\u2019\u2019 Taufahema said.<\/p>\n \u201cI think he was homeless a few times, but I know he lived in this house,\u2019\u2019 the man added.<\/p>\n The guard said Nick specifically had one friend he would invite to his parents\u2019 multimillion-dollar home.<\/p>\n \u201cI would meet him right here,\u2019\u2019 Taufahema said near the residence.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not sure who he was, but I\u2019d always see [Nick] sneak off with him. I don\u2019t know what they were doing.\u201d<\/p>\n Still, the guard said, \u201cI never saw any violence with [Nick].<\/p>\n \u201cIf Nick is the suspect, I would never have thought that he would have done this to his parents.<\/p>\n \u201cGreat people, great people,\u2019\u2019 the worker said of Rob and his wife.<\/p>\n \u201cI would see them on a daily basis every day.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cEvery time they see me in my car outside, they always ask if I was OK, if I needed anything, food.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cOn a rainy day, the wife gave me an umbrella because I didn\u2019t have my umbrella. \u2026 And I still have it to this day.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n He said that when he heard the news of the murders, \u201cI was just in shock.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI was like, \u2018Oh my God, I know these people.\u2019 They\u2019re the sweetest people in the world.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n![\"Rob](\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/12\/rob-reiner-michele-romy-nick-117383667_8146a3.jpg\")
