US Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has censured President Donald Trump for pushing the United States toward a \u201cforeign war\u201d with Venezuela.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Schumer warned Trump on Saturday about his hostile posture against Venezuela, saying that he is edging the United States \u201ccloser and closer to another costly foreign war\u201d without congressional approval.<\/p>\n

He rebuked Trump over the recent escalation towards Venezuela and argued that the president had upended the country\u2019s constitution.<\/p>\n

\u201cPresident Trump\u2019s reckless actions towards Venezuela are pushing America closer and closer to another costly foreign war,\u201d Schumer stated. \u201cUnder our Constitution, Congress has the sole power to declare war \u2014 not the President \u2014 and Congress has not authorized the use of military force against Venezuela.\u201d<\/p>\n

The minority leader cautioned the US president against perpetual war, saying Americans were \u201ctired of endless foreign wars.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAmericans are tired of endless foreign wars that cost the lives of countless American service members and drain precious resources,\u201d Schumer said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not an America First policy,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The Democratic Senator from New York called for bipartisan pushback by lawmakers in Congress, urging other Congressmen from both sides of the aisle to \u201ccome together to return the power to declare war back to the people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Schumer\u2019s strong criticism of Trump came after the US president wrote on his Truth Social\u00a0platform that Venezuela\u2019s airspace should be considered \u201cclosed in its entirety.\u201d<\/p>\n
