They show a compact source of light without a clear cometary tail. A radial acceleration away from the Sun of 1.1&#215;10^{-6} au per day squared.<\/p>\n<p id=\"1e3d\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph vq vr qh vs b vt vu vv vw vx vy vz wa wb wc wd we wf wg wh wi wj wk wl wm wn go bl\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">2. A transverse acceleration relative to the Sun\u2019s direction of 3.7&#215;10^{-7} au per day squared.<\/p>\n<p id=\"5f5a\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph vq vr qh vs b vt vu vv vw vx vy vz wa wb wc wd we wf wg wh wi wj wk wl wm wn go bl\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Based on momentum conservation (as discussed\u00a0<a class=\"ah vp\" href=\"https:\/\/avi-loeb.medium.com\/afterthoughts-on-the-non-gravitational-acceleration-of-3i-atlas-at-perihelion-97c609e24fc6\" rel=\"noopener\" data-discover=\"true\">here<\/a>), I derived\u00a0<a class=\"ah vp\" href=\"https:\/\/avi-loeb.medium.com\/post-perihelion-data-on-3i-atlas-3d1e72be2bb4\" rel=\"noopener\" data-discover=\"true\">here<\/a>\u00a0that the mass fraction lost during the perihelion passage of 3I\/ATLAS is larger than 13%.\u00a0<mark class=\"aib aic aq\">For a typical comet, this should have resulted in a massive coma with dust and gas that would have been pushed by the solar radiation pressure and the solar wind to the shape of a typical cometary tail pointing away from the Sun. Its retrograde trajectory is aligned to within 5 degrees with the ecliptic plane of the planets around the Sun, with a likelihood of 0.2% (see\u00a0<a class=\"ah vp\" href=\"https:\/\/arxiv.org\/pdf\/2507.12213\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p id=\"9c93\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph vq vr qh vs b vt vu vv vw vx vy vz wa wb wc wd we wf wg wh wi wj wk wl wm wn go bl\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">2. Its nucleus is about a million times more massive than\u00a0<a class=\"ah vp\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1I\/%CA%BBOumuamua\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">1I\/`Oumuamua<\/a>\u00a0and a thousand times more massive than\u00a0<a class=\"ah vp\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2I\/Borisov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">2I\/Borisov<\/a>, while moving faster than both, altogether with a likelihood of less than 0.1% (see\u00a0<a class=\"ah vp\" href=\"https:\/\/iopscience.iop.org\/article\/10.3847\/2515-5172\/adee06\/ampdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">here<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a class=\"ah vp\" href=\"https:\/\/arxiv.org\/pdf\/2509.21408\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p id=\"03c7\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph vq vr qh vs b vt vu vv vw vx vy vz wa wb wc wd we wf wg wh wi wj wk wl wm wn go bl\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">4. Its arrival time was fine-tuned to bring it within tens of millions of kilometers from Mars, Venus and Jupiter and be unobservable from Earth at perihelion, with a likelihood of 0.005% (see\u00a0<a class=\"ah vp\" href=\"https:\/\/arxiv.org\/pdf\/2507.12213\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p id=\"169b\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph vq vr qh vs b vt vu vv vw vx vy vz wa wb wc wd we wf wg wh wi wj wk wl wm wn go bl\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">5. Its gas plume contains much more nickel than iron (as found in industrially-produced nickel alloys) and a nickel to cyanide ratio that is orders of magnitude larger than that of all known comets, including 2I\/Borisov, with a likelihood below 1% (see\u00a0<a class=\"ah vp\" href=\"https:\/\/arxiv.org\/pdf\/2510.11779\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p id=\"dfb6\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph vq vr qh vs b vt vu vv vw vx vy vz wa wb wc wd we wf wg wh wi wj wk wl wm wn go bl\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">6. Its gas plume contains only 4% water by mass, a primary constituent of familiar comets (see\u00a0<a class=\"ah vp\" href=\"https:\/\/iopscience.iop.org\/article\/10.3847\/2041-8213\/ae0647\/pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p id=\"0536\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph vq vr qh vs b vt vu vv vw vx vy vz wa wb wc wd we wf wg wh wi wj wk wl wm wn go bl\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">7. It shows extreme negative polarization, unprecedented for all known comets, including 2I\/Borisov, with a likelihood below 1% (see\u00a0<a class=\"ah vp\" href=\"https:\/\/arxiv.org\/pdf\/2509.05181\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p id=\"0d76\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph vq vr qh vs b vt vu vv vw vx vy vz wa wb wc wd we wf wg wh wi wj wk wl wm wn go bl\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">8.<mark class=\"aib aic aq\">\u00a0It arrived from a direction coincident with the radio \u201cWow! Signal\u201d to within 9 degrees, with a likelihood of 0.6%<\/mark>\u00a0(see\u00a0<a class=\"ah vp\" href=\"https:\/\/avi-loeb.medium.com\/was-the-wow-signal-emitted-from-3i-atlas-d18d4f0d1f1e\" rel=\"noopener\" data-discover=\"true\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p id=\"a620\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph vq vr qh vs b vt vu vv vw vx vy vz wa wb wc wd we wf wg wh wi wj wk wl wm wn go bl\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">9. Near perihelion, it brightened faster than any known comet and was bluer than the Sun (see\u00a0<a class=\"ah vp\" href=\"https:\/\/arxiv.org\/pdf\/2510.25035v1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p id=\"1ac9\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph vq vr qh vs b vt vu vv vw vx vy vz wa wb wc wd we wf wg wh wi wj wk wl wm wn go bl\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">10.
