The UN special rapporteur for the occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, told the General Assembly on 28 October that 63 countries, including key western and Arab states, have fueled or were complicit in \u201cIsrael\u2019s genocidal machinery\u201d in Gaza.<\/p>\n
Speaking remotely from the Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation in Cape Town, Albanese presented her\u00a024-page report<\/a>, \u2018Gaza Genocide: A Collective Crime,\u2019 which she said documents how states armed, financed, and politically protected Tel Aviv as Gaza\u2019s population was \u201cbombed, starved, and erased\u201d for over two years.<\/p>\n Her findings place the US at the center of Israel\u2019s war economy, accounting for two-thirds of its weapons imports and providing diplomatic cover through seven UN Security Council vetoes.<\/p>\n The report cited Germany, Britain, and a number of other European powers for continuing arms transfers \u201ceven as evidence of genocide mounted,\u201d and condemned the EU for sanctioning Russia over the war in Ukraine while remaining Israel\u2019s top trading partner.<\/p>\n Albanese accused global powers of having \u201charmed, founded, and shielded Israel\u2019s militarized apartheid,\u201d allowing its settler-colonial project \u201cto metastasize into genocide \u2013 the ultimate crime against the indigenous people of Palestine.\u201d<\/p>\n She said the genocide was enabled through \u201cdiplomatic protection in international fora meant to preserve peace,\u201d military cooperation that \u201cfed the genocidal machinery,\u201d and the \u201cunchallenged weaponization of aid.\u201d<\/p>\n The report also identified complicity among Arab states, including the UAE, Egypt, Bahrain, and Morocco, which\u00a0normalized ties<\/a>\u00a0with Tel Aviv.<\/p>\n Egypt, she noted, maintained \u201csignificant security and economic relations with Israel, including\u00a0energy cooperation<\/a>\u00a0and the closing of the Rafah crossing,\u201d tightening the siege on Gaza\u2019s last humanitarian route.<\/p>\n Albanese warned that the international system now stands \u201con a knife-edge between the collapse of the rule of law and hope for renewal,\u201d urging states to suspend all military and trade agreements with Tel Aviv and build \u201ca living framework of rights and dignity, not for the few, but for the many.\u201d<\/p>\n Her presentation provoked an outburst from Israel\u2019s envoy Danny Danon, who called her a \u201cwicked witch.\u201d<\/p>\n Frascnesca fired back, saying, \u201cIf the worst thing you can accuse me of is witchcraft, I\u2019ll take it. But if I had the power to make spells, I would use it to stop your crimes once and for all and to ensure those responsible end up behind bars.\u201d<\/p>\n Human rights experts described the report as the UN\u2019s most damning indictment yet of Israel\u2019s ongoing genocide in Gaza.<\/p>\n
