During the 2024 campaign, Dr. John Gartner\u2014a psychologist and co-founder of Duty To Warn\u2014raised<\/a>\u00a0red flags in our interview about Donald Trump\u2019s cognitive decline,\u00a0\u201cI honestly believe that if Trump were to get re-elected that he would become completely incapacitated in office.\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0That led me at the time to write an article warning that if Trump won, we could have a\u00a0PINO: A President in Name Only<\/a>.<\/p>\n Well, that appears to be where we are. True, there are times that Trump is lucid. However, anyone who has seen a loved one with dementia can back up that there are good and bad days\u2014but over time the \u201cbad days\u201d far eclipse the good.<\/p>\n That is why we can\u2019t ignore the just about daily signs of Trump\u2019s cognitive decline\u2014as well his physical decline that is interrelated. Just last week, Trump gave us another glaring example when he had\u00a0no idea<\/a>\u00a0what habeas corpus was\u2014confusing it for a person. He then asked Kristi Noem to answer the question about habeas corpus given Trump had no memory of a bedrock principal of our legal system.<\/p>\n Another very concerning incident was Trump\u2019s inability to walk in a straight line on the red carpet when he recently met Vladimir Putin. Dr. Gartner\u00a0explained<\/a>, Trump\u2019s lumbering gait is a \u201cvery diagnostic of a specific type of dementia known as frontotemporal dementia.\u201d<\/p>\n This not the same Trump from a mental and physical point of view that we saw just a few years ago\u2014a point made by Pulitzer Prize winning journalist David Cay Johnston who has known Trump for decades. As Johnston\u00a0told<\/a>\u00a0me last week, \u201cDonald\u2019s not in good health at all–both from a physical and psychological perspective.\u201d<\/p>\n And just two weeks ago, Rep. Jasmine Crockett sent a\u00a0letter<\/a>\u00a0(that demanded more press attention) to the White House doctor posing questions about Trump\u2019s cognitive issues given his \u201cerratic behavior\u2026and troubling lapses in memory and focus.\u201d For example, she cited Trump\u2019s recent \u201cdifficulty remembering basic facts about his own prior administration, such as forgetting that he appointed Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.\u201d<\/p>\n We all know the Trump regime will never give us honest answers about Trump. This is especially true when it comes to subjective cognitive tests where Trump\u2019s doctor will interpret the results to make him look good.<\/p>\n That is why we need Trump to submit to a\u00a0brain scan<\/a>\u00a0so we can have objective data about his mental state. This can be a CT scan and\/or an MRI\u2014both painless, relatively quick tests.<\/p>\n These were the very tests prescribed by Dr. Gartner for Trump in our\u00a0recent interview<\/a>. Gartner explained \u201cparts of the brain actually die when a person has dementia and the scan will show us that.\u201d<\/p>\n Other experts back this up,\u00a0noting<\/a>\u00a0that, \u201cBrain scanning and imaging has led to more accurate ways to diagnose dementia.\u201d For example, the National Institute on Aging (which is part of the federal government)\u00a0explains<\/a>, \u201cSeveral types of brain scans enable doctors and scientists to see different factors that may help diagnose Alzheimer\u2019s or a related dementia.\u201d As to a CT scan, it \u201ccan show shrinkage of brain regions that may occur in\u00a0dementia<\/a>.\u201d An MRI \u201ccan show whether areas of the brain have atrophied (shrunk).\u201d Overall, \u201cEvidence of shrinkage may support a diagnosis of Alzheimer\u2019s or another neurodegenerative dementia.\u201d<\/p>\n
