Billionaire Elon Musk launched a renewed attack on US President Donald Trump\u2019s budget bill on Saturday, calling it\u00a0\u201cutterly insane\u201d<\/em>\u00a0and warning that it would hurl America into\u00a0\u201cdebt slavery\u201d<\/em>\u00a0and destroy millions of jobs. The dispute between the two men who were once close allies turned ugly earlier in June over Trump\u2019s\u00a0\u201cbig, beautiful\u201d<\/em>\u00a0tax and spending bill.<\/p>\n

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO\u2019s outburst came hours before Senate Republicans narrowly advanced the bill in a 51-49 procedural vote, with Vice President J.D. Vance on standby to break a potential tie.<\/p>\n

Musk took to X to condemn the legislation, writing,\u00a0\u201cThe latest Senate draft bill will destroy millions of jobs in America and cause immense strategic harm to our country!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

In a series of posts, he accused the bill of favoring\u00a0\u201cindustries of the past\u201d<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 likely a jab at fossil fuel subsidies \u2013 while undermining future-focused sectors like renewable energy and tech.<\/p>\n

Musk claimed that the bill\u2019s $5 trillion debt ceiling hike would put the US in the\u00a0\u201cfast lane to debt slavery,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0citing polling data that suggests GOP voters oppose the bill over fiscal concerns.<\/p>\n

After leaving the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Musk criticized the bill\u2019s deficit impact, calling it a\u00a0\u201cdisgusting abomination.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Trump retaliated by accusing Musk of having sour grapes over lost electric vehicle subsidies \u2013 a reference to federal incentives that had benefited Tesla. Musk escalated by insinuating that Trump had ties to late financier and convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, while Trump considered cutting SpaceX contracts.
