Let\u2019s talk about\u2026India vs Pakistan<\/h1>\n

Early this morning, the Pakistani government claimed the Indian military had launched missiles at several sites in Pakistan and the Pakistan-administered Kashmir region.<\/p>\n

India confirmed this story, claiming it had struck \u201cterrorist infrastructure\u201d in retaliation for the alleged terrorist attack carried out in\u00a0Pahalgam<\/a>\u00a0on April 22nd.<\/p>\n

Pakistani officials counter-claimed there were no terrorists or terrorist sites struck, only civilians, and vowed to \u201crespond appropriately\u201d, before shelling areas of India-controlled Kashmir.<\/p>\n

\u2026and so we have a new war.<\/p>\n

A brand new theatre of \u201cglobal conflict\u201d has opened up, and theatre is the only word for it.<\/p>\n

It is the first armed conflict between two supposed nuclear powers, and nobody much seems to mind. It is yet another example of the total society-wide amnesia regarding the \u201cmutually assured destruction\u201d principle.<\/p>\n

Further, there seem to be no perceivable victory conditions or reason for being.<\/p>\n

The terrorist attack was \u2013 as most \u201cterrorist attacks\u201d are \u2013 somewhere between entirely pointless and 100% counterproductive in terms of mission goals.<\/p>\n

Those allegedly responsible have yet to be apprehended or even publicly identified. No evidence of any link to Pakistan has been publicly presented either. It seems to have been a totally random act of violence, conducted by persons unknown for no reason at all,<\/p>\n

Like a badly written movie reaching for an inciting incident.<\/p>\n

And while the \u201cnukes aren\u2019t real\u201d people are probably rubbing their hands with glee at this fresh evidence, an alternative explanation would be that we\u2019re being presented with another war, which seems to have pre-arranged rules of engagement.<\/p>\n

Remember the humanitarian \u201cpause\u201d in Israel\u2019s bombing of Gaza to allow a Polio vaccination drive? Recall how, for a startlingly long time, Russia was still shipping gas to the EU through Ukraine, and still paying Ukraine for their trouble? Or how Iran\u00a0carefully warned the US\u00a0<\/a>about their planned \u201cretaliation\u201d for the death of General Qasem Soleimani, ensuring they killed no Americans at all?<\/p>\n

We\u2019re bombarded with wars and conflicts that make no sense on their own terms, and at the very least seem to be contested according to pre-arranged conditions and agreements.<\/p>\n

The moment a \u201cwar\u201d has rules and boundaries, then clearly it\u2019s not an existential struggle; it is at best a political bargaining tactic and at worst\u2026something else.<\/p>\n

Honestly, at this point, even if this fresh war is reported to become a nuclear confrontation, can we believe that?<\/p>\n

A \u201climited nuclear engagement\u201d \u2013 staged, one way or another \u2013 would be a great way to scare people into accepting some kind new global world order to \u201cprevent future conflicts\u201d that \u201cpose a threat to the planet\u201d.<\/p>\n

But maybe we\u2019re becoming too cynical. What do you guys think?<\/p>\n
