Its purpose is to eliminate dissent on any topic Google chooses. \u201cThe algorithms are Google\u2019s last-ditch attempt to control the internet before people worldwide can no longer access it.\u00a0 The goal is to have one point of view. Google calls it \u2018Data Commons\u2019,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/newsothersmiss.com\/nakedtruthnews\/ipcc-epa-unstats-google-news-initiative-lab-fact-check-tools-global-internet-censorship-latoya-drake-data-commons-un-who-stanford-deepsolar-anheuser-busch-baldwinsville-brewery-wastewater-dailyorange\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Naked Truth News<\/em>\u00a0wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hosted by Google, Data Commons\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/datacommons.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">aggregates data from a wide range of sources<\/a>\u00a0into a unified database. \u00a0It is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thegraphlounge.com\/what-is-datacommons-org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a collection of data and tools<\/a>\u00a0which, broadly speaking, comprise a \u201cknowledge graph\u201d linking data from numerous open sources, supporting schemas, an API to access data in the graph, a graph browser, and a fact-check dataset.<\/p>\n<p>It links references to the same entities \u2013 such as cities, counties, organisations, etc. \u2013 across different datasets to nodes on the graph, so that users can access data about a particular entity aggregated from different sources.\u00a0 In other words, it allows someone to query a person or entity and all the information about that person or entity within Google\u2019s database is displayed.<\/p>\n<p>The Data Commons site was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.datacommons.org\/factcheck\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">launched in May 2018<\/a>\u00a0with an initial dataset consisting of fact-checking data published in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/ClaimReview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ClaimReview<\/a>\u00a0format by several \u201cfact-checkers\u201d from Poynter\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ifcncodeofprinciples.poynter.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">International Fact-Checking Network<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/reporterslab.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Duke Reporters\u2019 Lab<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>By October 2018,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/datacommons.org\/factcheck\/blog#post-2018-10-02\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Data Commons reported<\/a>\u00a0that the release of the sample dataset had stimulated further interest in the study of misinformation and that it had \u201creceived requests from academia to update the fact check corpus regularly and allow more publishers and non-technical users to add ClaimReview markups.\u201d These requests were satisfied by the introduction of a suite of Google-based fact-check tools.<\/p>\n<p>In October 2020,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.datacommons.org\/2020\/10\/15\/search_launch.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Data Commons became accessible in Google search<\/a>: \u201cWe are excited to share that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.google\/products\/search\/search-on\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Data Commons is accessible via natural language queries in Google search<\/a>.\u00a0 At a time when data informs our understanding of so many issues \u2013 from public health and education to the evolving workforce and more \u2013 access to data has never been more important.
